CHIEF RAMOS:

10-16 at Garcia residence. Urgent assistance required. The message reads.

“What’s a 10-16?” Corey asks.

“It’s code for a domestic problem aka a domestic disturbance. Cora needs help,” I tell him urgently.

“I don’t have my uniform here,” Corey says.

“You’ll have to borrow one of mine.”

I quickly make for the bedroom, open my closet, pull out a black shirt, tie, black pants, and belt, and then lay them on the bed for Corey. He enters the room, grabs the clothing, then exits, and I hear the bathroom door open and close. I quickly change into my uniform before heading out into the living room to wait for Corey.

Thankfully, I drove the undercover squad car home from the station last night, and it comes in handy for situations like this when I get called out on an emergency. I grab my keys from the kitchen counter, slide my hat underneath my arm and wait for Corey. When he appears from the bathroom seconds later, my eyes immediately travel the entire length of his body, drinking in the sight of him decked out in my uniform.

“Damn, dude, you’re sexy as fuck in that uniform.”

“It’s a little tight,” he says, adjusting his crotch.

“Yeah, in all the right places,” I say, ogling the man.

“Are you done undressing me?”

“For now. But when we come back here tonight, I’ll do more than just undress you,” I say with a wink.

He says nothing but raises his eyebrows, then the two of us walk out the front door and make out way to the car. Once inside, I turn on the police radio and hear the Chief’s voice come through.

“Suspect is armed and extremely dangerous. Back-up is on the way.”

“This sounds bad,” I hear Corey say.

“I swear to God if that son of a bitch has laid a finger on her and those kids, I’ll kill him myself.”

I start the engine, frantically reverse out of the driveway, and head straight down the road. With the sirens blaring, it doesn’t take us very long to weave through traffic. We make a quick detour to the station to collect our gun belts, and Corey grabs a pair of shoes, hat and badge, then before long, we’re turning down Cora’s street. As I continue driving, I notice several other squad cars ahead, and my heart skips several beats while my stomach churns, and I feel like I’m going to throw up. I slow the car down as we get to Cora’s, and as I open my door, one of the other officers makes his way toward the car.

“How bad is it?” I ask.

“He has a gun.”

“Any shots fired?”

“One, but no fatalities,” he informs me.

“Who made the call?” I ask him.

“The woman next door. She’s pretty shaken up.”

“Thank you,” I tell the officer, and he moves away from the vehicle.

My eyes flick from the front door of Cora’s house to the woman’s house next door, then to Corey, and finally back to the steering wheel.

“What are we going to do?” Corey asks.

“I think it’s time we had a chat with the lady next door.
